so a while ago i wrote a post called ‘Reasons to leave SA’ and basically broke it down to people who incessantly whine and those who either feel specifically called somewhere else or are in another place for another reason, but that for the most part there are so many more reasons to stay in South Africa…
obviously tbV and myself are not there at the moment [my heart is definitely largely there although at the same time we place huge emphasis on really just being where we are and so try to be completely rooted in Oakland while we are here, which is important] and can’t contribute to this one right now, but i’d love to hear from you, in the comments section…
won’t you take a moment and share JUST ONE reason why you stay in South Africa… it can begin ‘On reason i stay in South Africa is…’ or else ‘One reason i really love living in South Africa right now is…’ but please, only one per person, but if you are someone living in SA right now, what is one reason that contributes to you staying?
And go. [no, don’t leave, write an answer… sigh.]
Because it is Afrika. Mother Nature is most visible and tangible here…
One reason I stay in South Africa is opportunity, opportunity to invest in a country rich with possibilities.
One reason I stay in South Africa is that it needs me, and I need it.
One reason I really love living in South Africa is the opportunity we have to make a difference and be the light that this country so desperately needs.
If you have never lived in South Africa before, you wouldn’t get this… cos there is no easy way to describe it… Africa is Africa!! Home is HOME!! But there is SOMETHING special about this place… when you’re here, you feel it… you can’t identify it. I don’t have a name for it. i think it may be ‘Ubuntu’… value on community, rather than individuality… it’s the thing that makes the shop tellers laugh at your jokes, and ask about your family. I don’t know what it is. But i love it!!
I get to be reminded daily of the beauty of the world, but also our need for a saviour (easy to forget why we need a God in first world countries)
Because there is still work to be done here, thus i will pick up my cross and do it!
One reason I stay in South Africa is that I see such incredible hope, beauty, joy and life in this nation – a hope, beauty, joy and life that I celebrate daily when I think of the miracle our country came through in 1994 – and a hope, beauty, joy and life that I see unfolding in the future as peacemakers arise…
South Africa is home. I agree with “debaustwick”. Impossible to put a name on it…
There are a million reasons but the top one for me is this: I have tried living in other countries, but once Africa gets under your skin, you will never be truly happy anywhere else. Africa is my home.
There is a rhythm and energy that this amazing country we call home holds; there are opportunities to be present with people from anywhere and everywhere; despite the harshness of the news stories, we also have a people who are compassionate, caring and funny to boot. We can laugh at ourselves and with each other. Spiritually we can see God at work, be part of God at work and figure out “What Jesus would do” while embracing and learning from the diversity that is home.
..I love South-Africa too much to give up on it – This is my Home, my heart is here….. there are those destroying her and don’t seem to care… I care and as hard as the “Bad” that is happening makes me negative most of the time…. I am adamant and believe things will change for the better – I Pray to God. South-Africa……. there is no place like it….. ❤
Thanks for stopping by and commenting Nats. I get that you love this country but name one thing. Just one that stands out for you, out of the many many reasons there are…
