So assuming i got the right aircraft and these aren’t just for the first class toffs [so fine if anyone wants to bucketlist bump us up to a different class for fun] this is the selection of movies i have available for our first flight to Washington D.C. in which i can watch 2 to 3 movies if i work it right. What would you watch? Hoping to get enough votes so that i can compose a top 3 out of movies i have not seen yet so try and factor that in if you can… What would your top five be from this list… excuse the squinting – this is the best i could do… and GO!
Minus 200 points for even suggesting Anchorman 2 – STOPPIT!
UPDATE: So this was kind of a non-starter with the list NOT being the list of movies available on our first flight where we got a sum total of ZERO movies offered and no food and then on the big international flight i watched MILLION DOLLAR ARM [So Great!] and NOAH [What a load of bollockses] and half of Monuments Men [yawn!] before we landed in Dakar to refuel after which, for the longest section [8 hours] of our flight, tbV and myself and maybe two other people had no working tvs/movies at all so SAD FACE United/SAA – thumbs down… have been looking forward to the movie part of the transition for a while now and you let me down completely [and still have one of my bags, but that’s another post]
– Goodfellas
– Minority Report
– That Thing You Do (the greatest forgotten movie in Americaland of the ’90s)
– The Great Gatsby (hopefully it’s the R.Redford edition, but it’s prolly the DiCaprio one)
– The Little Mermaid
– Up
Noted. Have not seen Goodfellas on this list. Classic gangster right? Seen the others. Up is a winner for sure. I am grootfully appreciative for your suggestions sir, slash dawg!
Pirates marathon!!
The Way, Way Back is way, way good. Walter Mitty is so fun and great for travel-time! The Great Gatsby is beautiful and entertaining and heartfelt and tragic, but I am a huge fan of both F. Scott Fitzgerald and Leonardo Dicaprio. That being said, The Wolf on Wall Street is basically porn and coke – not worth anyone’s time. I’ve heard Her gets uncomfy. I really enjoyed American Hustle, but have friends that didn’t. I wouldn’t waste your airplane time on The Hobbit or Saving Mr. Banks, which was kind of mediocre in my opinion.
If I were you I’d pick The Book Thief, That Awkward Moment, and The Monuments Men because I’ve never seen any of those movies but would really like to.
Good luck with such an important decision!
Thankx Suzanne, have not watched Way Way Back so that is a possibility for sure. Walter Mitty is great! Have seen Gatsby and would not touch Wolf with a pole. Watched part of ‘Her’ [see above] [or below] and pity about ‘Mr Banks’ cos that is one i would consider but do like the idea of Monuments Men and Book Thief for sure and need to check out ‘That Awkward Moment’ which i can
t remember what it is about but feel like it has someone i really like in it – thank you!
That Awkward Moment has Zac Efron… and that’s all I know about it, but that’s enough for me.
50 First Dates and Caddyshack!!
Have watched 50 First Dates and that is a good one and i should probably seriously consider Caddyshack being a classic and all, thankx!
I can recommend American Hustle, Stranger than Fiction, or Royal Tenenbaums if you haven’t seen them. I want to see Her and Moneyball, but haven’t gotten to them yet.
Good recommendations Jeremy but sadly have seen them all – would step gingerly into watching Her cos we watched some of it and stopped because the streaming was pretty bad [bought it on MGO] but it was not close to a family show at all… Moneyball is great!
Her was just plain strange!!
Wouldn’t recommend some of the action movies, because the screens on planes are too small!
Don’t bother watching That Awkward Moment.
Delivery Man is a fairly clean, funny Vince Vaughn movie. Worth a watch.
The Book Thief is really good.
The Way, Way Back.
The Monuments Men.
Million Dollar Arm (haven’t seen it, but looks like a feel-good sports movie)
Ooh, Million Dollar Arm is on there? [clearly i should read the list] – that is a good looking one because CRICKET. Thankx Roger – realising there are more movies i want to watch than time on plane so hopefully long flight will have the same dilemmas – Book Thief and Monuments Men seem to be topping the list, oh and Way Way Back!
Saving mr banks was good if you ever saw mary poppins
Jack Ryan was very good also
Thankx Lisa, although i now have some conflicting reports about Mr Banks but definitely keen to see it sometime and did not get to see Jack Ryan so that’s a definite option!
Moneyball and J Edgar, both about real people. You don’t have to like their kind of game to be moved with how their stories are told in these movies. Both of those movies are directed by actors who are now rich enough to choose stories, without much pressure that it would have to be an universal success.
